My Hat’s Off To Ann

This story’s about my hat and a good friend of mine
A damn pretty lady who I can hardly decline
Five years ago this story started by word of mouth
In Maverick County in a hunting camp way down south

She wanted my black hat in the worst kind of way
So she got to trying to swap for it during her stay
With her $2,000 gator boots that was only size nine
They wouldn’t fit my big foot so I gracefully declined

Now she says she’ll pay cash but she doesn’t understand
That a cowboy’s hat is just part of the man
To sell his own hat would be the thing he’d hate worse
Why he’d probably sell one of his own private parts first

When she gets to camp the horse trading’s gonna start
And I’ll have to tighten my belt a notch cause this lady’s smart
But what she doesn’t know is I’ve haggled with the best
And I’m sure looking forward to it cause it will be a real test

Now I’m behind in this trade before it even starts out
Cause for a pretty lady I’m a sucker and that’s no doubt
She’ll find out that I’m easy, but not cheap you can bet your ass
As she takes my prize possession and I take her cash

So Ann, my hat’s off to you as we make the final trade
And I’m beginning to think it’s one of the best deals I’ve ever made
I hope you’ve enjoyed the haggling, I know it’s been a real test
